What a long, yet exiting day. The Landmark Eagles were fortunate enough to go 4-1 on the day. We started out with three games very close together again. I attended our 12U girls game. We played one of the Team USA teams. The game before ours also featured at 12U Team USA. I have to give these girls a tremendous amount of credit. These girls come out only knowing one or two players, if any at all, and play for the love of the game. There were some very talented girls on both teams. It must be very hard to play together, knowing very few plays and having no idea what your teammates are capable of. Our team was blessed with some great ying and yang as Kaitlyn Woody and Celina King started out playing great early, followed up by my younger one coming on strong through the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I saw some very talented teams in our age group and we look forward to the challenge to come.
Our 14U girls ended up in a bit of a miss-match game this morning. With most of our bench players playing across town in their own 12U game, our starters were forced to play most of the game (we only had 6 on each team). This caused problems in both our 14U and later in our 18U game. Unable to sub out our starters it was more difficult to keep the score reasonable. It also did not allow us to rest our older girls…which leads me to the 18U girls.
We played another young, very talented team in the MHEA Lady Eagles. If it could go wrong for us…it did. We came out incredibly flat and struggled to make any shots. MHEA played great. They made shots right and left. I’m not sure they missed a free through the whole game (and they shot a lot!). They even made a half court Hail Mary at the end of the first half. We had cut their lead to 10 and were beginning to gain some momentum and that shot was a dagger in our girls. MHEA played a great game and we wish them luck in 6A. I am sure we will continue to see them through the next few years and possibly even at the 12U and 14U levels. It’s now on to the 5A and the challenge to see if we can bring home the trophy there.
Our boys both won today. I did not see the 16U play (again, one of the three games all played too close together to watch) but I hear the put together a pretty good game. They move into the #4 seed of 6A and match up with the Memphis FCA Nighthawks. Good luck boys!
Our 18U boys pulled out a gusty win against the American Christian Academy. Once up by about 12 we lost the lead and found ourselves down by 4 or 5. The boys regained their composure and behind a couple of timely three’s by Seth Young and Ryan Rousch we pulled out the W.
Tomorrow is another action packed day. Three of our teams are in action with the 12U girls and 16U boys beginning their 6A bracket play and the 14U girls playing for the right to get there. We also get to watch our All Americans in their respective games at MSU and we wish Rachael, Anna and Darwin best of luck in their games.
It’s almost the ½ way point of the tournament and it almost seems as though it has just begun. What glorious weather the Lord has given us so far this week and every gym we have played in has been such gracious hosts. We look forward to what the Lord will do in each of our kids and how He will grow them this week through the competition found in such a great game. Good luck and safety to all!
