Rebekah Marsh (6-0, F/P, Houston, Tx.) is a four-year starter for the Lady Warriors and is a co-captain for the ’06-’07 team that is currently 34-4 on the season. Marsh is averaging 8.4 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game and leads the team in field goal percentage while shooting 52.4% from the field.
“Rebekah has been a tremendously hard worker throughout her career with HCYA and has developed into a very solid low post defender and has great skills whether playing on the perimeter or posting up. She can shoot the 3-pointer well, has a great mid-range jumper, or can score in the paint. She has done a great job for us defensively, often matching up with 6’3 or bigger players, as well as being able to defend smaller and quicker players too,” says Coach Hester. “She can play the 3, 4, or 5 for Wayland Baptist and will be a great asset to a fine program. Her outstanding character and leadership qualities will make her a success in life no matter what she chooses to do.”
Marsh is the third of the three seniors on the Lady Warriors squad that will be playing college basketball next season. She is joined by fellow seniors, co-captains, and teammates Rachel McLeod ( Liberty) and Corrie Hester (Oral Roberts) who will also be playing at the next level in “07-’08.
Wayland Baptist University is an NAIA school competing in the Sooner Athletic Conference and is located in Plainview, Texas. The Flying Queens are coached by Will Flemons, a former standout player at Texas Tech University. Coach Flemons is currently in his fourth season at Wayland Baptist. About Rebekah, Coach Flemons commented that “I needed a post player, and not just any post player, but one that would fit the program. Two of my players came back from a basketball camp in Houston ranting and raving about this post player named Rebekah Marsh. When she visited, I saw how well she responded to plays on the court and the players on my team. I saw game tapes and I really liked it because the upside to her talent is that, while she is a skilled player, she still has room to grow and get better."
